Saved me a fortune. 16 April 2012
Only a few days ago, and about a couple of months after my bespoke built-in fridge's warranty ran out, there was a cracking sound as I opened the fridge door. Upon trying to close it again, I found that the very complicated top hinge assembly had bits of broken plastic dropping out of the hinge body. This caused the hinge not to function properly. The door of the fridge is hinged to the built-in unit which in turn fixes to the fridge body. The problem was that the door refused to fully close, which meant it wouldn't seal and gradually opened more and more. I dreaded having to call the original installers who we were not on favourable terms with by the end of a very protracted installation which is another story entirely. I decided to try and take the plunge myself, so set about finding the documents to ascertain the serial number and model number, so that I could order the part. As always, the documentation had gone walkabout so I had to scour the fridge for the information. eSpares does even tell you where to look for the information on the website, which was extremely helpful. Armed with the information, I got onto the eSpares website to order the parts. Then of course, as in sods law, my model was no longer featured under the maker. However a quick phone call to eSpares saved the day. They phoned me back a short while later with full details of the hinges I needed with the price, and said I could have them sent immediately. The only downside was that they do come in as a pair, which is more costly, but is normal practise to change both hinges at the same time. Upon reflection, very sensible advice, as I wouldn't want to be having to do the same job again in a few months time. A day and a half later I had the said hinges, which were exactly the ones I needed. Armed with a six point star screwdriver, which I imagine the makers believe that only professionals posess, I set to work. I dismantled the doors, refitted the new hinges which worked a treat, and completed the job in about 30 minutes. I'm absolutely sure that had I called for a tradesman, two visits would have been necessary and the job would have been very expensive, so I am well pleased and eternally grateful to eSpares. They have come up trumps yet again, and saved me a bomb to boot!
