How to Replace the Heater on a Candy Tumble Dryer

If your Candy tumble dryer is not producing any heat and your clothes are still coming out wet, there could be a problem with the heater. Over time, tumble dryer heaters can malfunction and will need to be completely replaced. In this article, we will take you through a step by step guide on how to replace the heater on your Candy tumble dryer.

Before you go ahead and replace your tumble dryer heater, there are a few checks you can perform first to rule out any other possible issues. The first thing to do is to remove any lint build-up. Lint can be found in the filter, the condenser or vent and in the hose too. If it builds up too much, it can cause air to stop flowing through the appliance. Other possible causes are a faulty element, thermostat and problems with the drainage or reservoir. Before you begin, make sure your tumble dryer is switched off and fully disconnected from the mains.

• Screwdriver
• Small flat-headed screwdriver
• String

First things first, you'll need to order a replacement heater for your Candy tumble dryer. You can find these on our online shop. To ensure you are purchasing the correct heater for your appliance, you will need to locate the model number. This can usually be found in the corner of the door panel as shown in the image below. However, it may also be on the tumble dryer's door, or on the side or back of the appliance. The model number usually consists of a combination of letters and numbers and could also include characters such as a dash (-) or a slash (/).

To begin the repair, you will need to remove the heater cover. To do this, remove all the screws around the edges.

Then remove the heater itself by removing the two screws at the top.

Then, remove the grommet which is located in the bottom left-hand corner and attached to the wire. Just pull this gently and it will come away.

Next, you'll need to remove the heater wiring. For this, you will need to use your small flat-headed screwdriver and a piece of string. What you need to do is use the screwdriver to gently lift up one side of the cable grip wings.

Then, feed the string through the wing and tie a knot. This will allow you to keep hold of the wires and be able to replace them later on.

Then, push the cable grip into the machine, keeping hold of the string.

And pull out the wires.

Now you have access to the wires you can connect the wiring for your new heater. Make sure that you change the same colour wires that are already connected. For example, remove the yellow wire and replace it with the yellow wire from your new heater and do the same with the red, black and white wires.

Next, you'll need to remove the string from the old cable grip and refit it to the new cable grip that comes with the new heater. Again, just tie a knot around one side. Be sure to pull it tight so that when you're feeding it through the machine, the string doesn't come off.

Next, you'll need to feed the new wires back through and refit the cable grip. Use your string to help you guide it through. You can then remove the string.

Place the new heater in position and refit the two screws at the top.

Don't forget to refit the grommet too.

Once the heater is in place you can now replace the heater cover by refitting all the screws around the edges.

To prevent your tumble dryer from developing future heating problems and keep it lasting for longer, there are a few maintenance tasks you should regularly perform. These include:

• Removing lint from your dryer after every cycle.
• Regularly cleaning the condenser.
• Not opening the door during a cycle.
• Not allowing the water box in a condenser dryer to become full.
• Refraining from using the tumble dryer when the room’s temperature doesn’t fall in the 5°C – 35°C range. Most tumble dryers can work below 5°C, but won’t heat up at the required level to dry your clothes.
• Not overloading the dryer.
