The problem could be the brushes but check the power cord first as it is common to brake as it enters the cleaner handle.
I have a dc14 animal after watching your vid on how to change the motor, however when it comes to removing the belt there is a cover over it which makes it hard to remove the brush assembly , how do i remove the cover over the belt many thanks mick. 1 Answer
- The video on how to replace a Dyson clutch for DC14 under Dyson Clutch Assembly ES212526 explains how to remove the belt cover on this particular model and needs to be used together with the Motor replacement video.
My 10 year old blue DC07 emitted smoke and a strong smell a couple of days ago. It expired. I have just spent an hour following your video to remove the motor, although as mine is not like yours it was not as simple. I need to know if it is worth getting a new motor for this 10 year old unit, or whether it would be better to buy a new one? Which is what I am inclined towards. Many thanks, Peter
- After 10 years i think you've had your monies worth, but i managed to change motors on my dc14 animal which is 6 years old follow the instructions in the video, and with a bit of cussing here and there you'll mange.
An excellent video but I have a question a tip and a note. First the tip, in the video the fan case seal is not pushed over the lip of the motor fully. If you do this properly there's no need for the fairy liquid. The edge of the rubber has a 'U' shaped edge which should fit over the metal. My note is that the exact construction does vary. On my model the motor retainer has four plastic lugs which need to be pushed in whilst levering it out otherwise you would break them. Also on my one (never been taken apart before), the belt guard had no metal clip and the rubber part had a wide and a narrow lug so has to be fitted the right way round. My question is how do you refit the clutch assembly and its casing. The casing has three torx screws and a long metal dowel to secure it and I had to remove it and the motor at the same time and not sure what order to put it back together.
- You should refit the motor and plastic casing frst and only then refit the clutch and its casing. Refitting the clutch is fiddly make sure that it is fully seated before attempting to fit the casing.
