My washer has bad odour and black mould on the door seal. I can only use non biological powder as we have a septic tank. Using biological would kill the bacteria in the tank and prevent it from working properly. Also the water is very hard here. Any suggestions?

The soap drawer in my Hoover Washer Dryer is removable and I can easlily keep this clean but the actual housing is a nightmare to clean and is usually jammed at the top with soap solution and fabric conditioner. When I had a machine repair man to call about something else he was less than helpful, I have used various brushes, hot wash, washing machine clearner all to no avail, short of taking the machine to peices is there anything further I can do?

great video for smelling washing machines.... also would help to know how to clean a smalling dishwasher and how to prevent the seal on lower end becoming filled with depris. how can the limescale remover clean the heat element. I thought the heat element wasn't part of where the water goes? Or am I being a dum nut?

Hi Nancyinringwood, check out this article on how to clean your dishwasher: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/dishwashers/a/3/174/cleaning-your-dishwasher.html Hopefully this will help you out! With regards to the heating element - it comes in to direct contact with the water, that's how it's heated! Because of this the element can get built up with limescale and detergent over time.

Answer this question

Recently purchased this product via a repair man who added 3 sachets to my bosch washer and promptly left. Following the wash the drum was no longer shiny but dull and marked. Do you think this is permanently damaged - washer still works OK but smell is now returning under 2 weeks later.

By hlindsey - Doncaster - 10 July 2009
  • I used two packets in one go (because the ones sent were out of date and came in lumps..) The drum was still shiny and didnt smell as bad, but used another one the next day. Hasnt appeared to damage the washer By Polly123 - Staffordshire - 07 August 2009

My wife always uses salt in the dishwasher and limesacale remover in the washing machine. Will this product replace both?

By macthead1 - Stevenage - 04 April 2009
  • I always use this product for both, once a month. However, I still put salt in my dishwasher and always have done, maybe I dont need to! By TC1170 - Cambridge - 06 April 2009

  • I can't fully answer the question. The active ingredient is sulphamic acid and you would be delivering about 50g a month to your septic tank. However, Drain Doctor in Southampton are offering a WC and urinal descaler that is claimed safe with septic tanks and contains sulphamic acid. I recommend that you investigate further.
