Just because the door does not open does not always point to a faulty door lock as if the machine recognises a 'fault' then it will often lock the door. Check what is working after restarting and see our video as you may not be able to replace the control module if it is needed. http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/1793/how-to-diagnose-washing-machine-control-and-program-problems

Answer this question

I think my door interlock needs replaced, your video shows removing the clip to get the rubber seal off. If my rubber seal has no clip should I just force it out? Any tips as it feels very tight and a flat head screw driver is not budging it!

On Indesit machines the door seal is fixed to the front panel by a retaining band like the one shown in Stock Number: ES831870. This has a spring (often at the bottom or hinge side). use a small screwdriver on this spring to start to pull off. for more details check our video: How to replace the door seal on a washing machine - Hotpoint

Depending on model this problem could be motor brushes (dismantle examine and replace if required) or a control board problem. If it looks like a control board problem consider a fixed price repair as the board will almost certainly require programming which requires expensive extra parts.

It sounds like you require the door catch or latch. Enter your full model number to identify the part.

Answer this question

Physically it looks OK, but I can't be sure if the fault is with the lock or with something else, maybe a fuse somewhere? There was a "bang" before the machine went "technical".

  • from my experience the machine wont start if the interlock is faulty as it will think the door is open. By lynne - cheltenham - 07 February 2013

  • I've had the same issue happen to me. Although the terminals in the plug looked black and burnt out when I plugged the cable into the new internal door lock it worked fine. The fault was within the actual door lock not the cable. hope this helps. By Andy - Somerset - 24 September 2012

The door lock wont light up on my hotpoint WD440 so the machine wont start. I have changed the door interlock and the door locks ok but the light wont come on thus it wont start the machine. Any ideas?

  • Try checking the brushes on the motor. If you have had the machine some time the brushes can ebcome worn and give these symptoms. (I had the same and it was easily fixed by changing the brushes.) By Anonymous - Scotland - 06 May 2013
