As the original is no longer available this may be a suitable alternative, however the setting of the controls may not be exactly the same as the original.
My fridge is testing short circuit on the live and neutral. Soon as I disconnect thermostat it tests ok

If not frozen you will get a low resistance from live to neutral that will disappear when the thermostat is disconnected. If the fuse is not blowing you do not have a short.
Fridge section keeps freezing food, but not all the time, just sometimes.

If your fridge freezer is in a cold environment it may be having to reduce the fridge temperature to keep the freezer cold enough. If in a warm kitchen try a new control board Stock Number: ES1247946 as your machine does not have a thermostat.

I am likely being stupid here but my Ikea fridge (for which this was stated compatible) has 2 wires/spade connectors on the original unit. This universal has 3 and I can't figure out what I should be connecting to what. HELP :(

We would suggest to use the connectors in the same relative position. The extra connection could be connected to a light on some fridges.
