These 'filter bags' are normally fitted in a tube and water is flowed through them to help reduce or remove impurities like limescale. If you have some type of filter arrangement they are suitable for this purpose.

It is likely the 'base' element in the iron is not heating.This may be a faulty element but it could also be the thermostat or possibly more likely the power lead to the iron has broken neat the iron handle.
My steam generator iron is not sending out steam. It sounds as though it is working but no steam. I live in Scotland and don't have a problem with lime scale but wondered if putting a new filter in would solve it. 1 Answer

If the machine is making the regular 'pumping noise' it may sort your problem as if the filters are blocked then water could not pass.
My steam iron generator seems a bit sluggish, is ther any descaler i can clean it with? I change the water filters regularly. 1 Answer
