You would need to test the fan with a multimeter to determine if it has failed.

It is likely the fan bearing could be noisy but you would need to confirm it has failed before ordering.

Answer this question

Freezer defrosted last week showing a freezer fan fault. Defrosted the fan but this has happened again. I think I may need a new fan. The model is samsung rs21dpsm. Could you point me in right direction as to which parts I need to order. It's 11 year old and never had this problem before.

This could be caused by a build-up of ice, test the fan motor and defrost heater for continuity as if it’s not defrosted correctly could interfere with the fan.

Answer this question

I believe the fan blades are held on by some form of spring. I was wondering how easy it was to move from the old to the new motor.

The fan is simply pushed onto the shaft, use a screwdriver shaft to knock the hub off the spindle by hitting the handle.

If the main motor (compressor) is tripping after a few seconds and trying again about a minute later and not starting. Then the compressor will need to be replaced by a refrigeration systems engineer as the unit will need to be re gassed after repair to work at all. Maybe a good option for you would be to use a repair company like "Repaircare" who offer a fixed price option.

If the compressor is not running but is hot and ticks around twice every minute it is likely that it will need a new compressor installed by a refrigeration engineer.
