I have a Smeg A1.1 model cooker. The left oven door hinge roller needs to be replaced but how do i remove and take out the old broken roller from its place once i have unscrewed the two screws that hold it in place?

  • This isn't particularly easy as the hinge roller fits behind a flange on the side panel and a flange on the inner oven wall and is screwed on to both of them from the back. This is how I did it: Remove the hob* and move it a few inches to one side and rest it back down on the top of the oven. This exposes a 1.5 inch gap between the side panel and the oven through which you need to fit the part. Remove the oven door and from the front remove the two screws that hold the hinge roller in place. The hinge roller will fall back into the gap behind and you can fish it out from the top. To get the new part in I poked a wire coat hanger in from the front and up to the top gap. Firmly hook the new part on to this and draw it down into position. You can then get the two screws back in from the front and put it all back together. *To take the hob off: pop the buttons off the from under the digital display and the hob levers. Undo the two screws that hold the front control panel on, unclip it and rest it up on the hob. This wil expose two front screws that hold the hob on to the side panels. There are two more in similar positions at the back. Undo all these and the hob will release, be careful though as all the wiring for thermocouples/controls etc under this and will still be connected to the oven. You only need to move it a little though to expose the gap. Safety note: unplug the oven ...gas is dangerous ...etc etc etc..... PS With these ovens left and right is as you look at it from the front to make sure you get the correct part. By Mr Brown - Derby - 16 January 2016
