hi, i hve washed and changed the filters in my dyson, and checked for any blockages, is there some other sort of filter or cut out connection that could be causing my problem. when i switch on the hoover it will suck for a few moments, then we get a sound as if some flap or valve has closed off and all suction is lost. what could be the cause?

  • We had the same problem, I changed both of the filters, after having washed the pre motor filter on a previous occasion, after a few days the issue returned. After some investigation it appears that the Yellow plastic pre motor filter (not the sponge insert) becomes clogged and even after washing doesn't get cleaned out very well. If you remove the filter you'll find that the issue disappears, this is NOT a remedy only a diagnostic check, if the issue doesn't return then it needs replacing. Otherwise all the fine particles will be ejected when hoovering. By Smudge - South West - 23 March 2011

The best thing to do would be to call Dyson who provide a great over the phone diagnostic check. Once you have been through this with them they'll be able to direct you to the correct part number and then we can have it shipped to you as soon as we know the problem.

Answer this question

I have a Dyson DC14 Allergy but have taken the side panel off to check the filter & there is no filter in there. It does have the filter in the bit between the clear bin & the motor.

Hi Sillylally, this filter is in the cyclone. If you lift the lid off the bin, the filter will be located in there.
