why does my fridge not hold its temperature- even on max. it does not defrost automatically? Liquid type food is going 'off' quickly. The fridge is possibly 8 years old, its width is important 46cm (not much room). Does the refidgerant need topping up? thank you!

Many refrigerators are struggling to keep there cool in this hot weather especially in households where they are disturbed a lot by repeated opening. It is possible that gas has escaped reducing its performance but if the cold panel (wet wall or evaporator) is evenly frosting and not just part iced and the rest warm then it is not likely that you have a problem. Try and reduce opening and increase ventilation in hot weather.
