When we use our dc40, we press the switch to activate the brush bar motor and it runs only for a max of 30 second and then it stops, it then will not run again even if we switch the switch on on and off, if we leave the vac for a few minutes it will again work, but then again for 30 sec max. there is also a smell, like a bunt out motor. I'm guessing the there is a fault with the brush bar motor, would you agree?

From the fault, you are describing it is likely to be the motor.

When the handle is lowered in relation to the yolk around the ball a switch is operated to run the brush motor. Check this switch is operating correctly.
