The thermostat can be connected either way around as it is a simple thermal switch.

Answer this question

I have a Miele T650C which cuts out (trips RCD in fuse box) after a minute or two of operation but works OK in COLD program. The thermostat currently reads as a short circuit. I have tested the heating element which reads 66 ohms and the other sensor reads 125K ohms.

  • It should read as a short circuit as the device only changes when the temperature reaches or exceeds the design temperature. If the RCD trips disconnect the mains plug and thermostat and measure the device between one spade terminal and earth and then try the other terminal and earth. It should read as an open circuit on both occassions but if you do get a reading the chances are that it is leaking down to the casing when it reaches a certain temperature. Ensure you are not touching either of the probes metal when checking otherwise you risk measuring the resistance of your body. By argyll mgtd - hebrides - 08 March 2014
