Now I have received this item, how do I remove the original rivets without damaging the machine, and how do I fit the new rivets, as they seem to have some sort of nail attached to them, or does this come off? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • The existing rivets should be drilled out with a drill slightly larger than the hole in the actual rivet - not the flat part of the rivet. The nail in the new rivet is pulled by the rivet gun to squash the rivet, which is aluminium, into place. The nail breaks off with the action of the gun. By neilph4 - Perthshire - 26 May 2010
  • You need to drill out the old rivets from the machine - use a drill which is nominally the same size as the new rivets - it will tend to self-centre on the old rivets. To fit the new rivets you need a pop-rivet gun which uses the "nail-like" piece sticking out of the rivets to pull the rivet into a fixing condition - as it does this the "nail" breaks off By BrummyScot - Scotland - 23 March 2010
  • drill out old ones and you need rivit gun to fit new ones . quite easy to do By Anonymous - manchester - 22 March 2010
Answer this question

As the original fitting has 2 rivets holding the hinge to the wash m/c, does the replacement hinge come with rivets or screws ? If it comes with rivets I assume you need a pop rivet gun to fit the replacement hinge after drilling out the old rivets ? can you confirm please.

  • Yes, you do need a pop rivet gun By neilph4 - Perthshire - 26 May 2010
  • Correct - two pop rivets supplied - you need a pop-rivet gun. No screws supplied - you use the original ones to fit the hinge to the door By BrummyScot - Scotland - 23 March 2010

Drill out the tops off the old pop rivets and push the stubs through. Re rivet the new hinge into position.
