There is a high pitched squealing sound coming from the pump, is this indicative of the pump failing?
The dryer still works but the noise is unbearable. I understand that the pump is constant and not controlled by the float switch.

A noise coming from the pump may indicate an issue, check there is not a blockage causing the pump to make a noise.
