I believe my fridge lamp has overheated and failed. How do I remove the existing lamp to test and examine it?

The fridge door had moved on it's hinge and ceased to switch the lamp off. Hence the bulb failed. After reseting the door and fitting a new bulb, the new bulb failed to illuminate. I have not discovered the secrets of how to remove either the switch or lamp assembly for test. FYI I am an electrical engineer trained in electronics and instrumentation and feel 'at home' on the electrical aspects.
