Machine starts too fast and in one direction

Following tightening of the lower balance weight the machine has developed a start error - it would normally start with a slow turning drum but now starts to fast and in one direction instead of alternating direction. The faster start results in the machine stopping because it detects an imbalance. I suspect a module defect but find it odd that it started after just tightening the weight. Any help or suggestion would be welcomed.
