Out Hoover NeXtra tumble dryer, model No: HNC 170-80 overheats sometimes, depending on how long it is set for. Will replacing the thermostat cure this?

If the dryer overheats significantly it will usually trip a non resettable cut out and not produce any more heat. It is normal for the heat to get hot and then cycle on and off during drying. And many dryers turn the heat off for the last ten minutes to ensure the machine cools prior to unloading. If you stop it earlier it may be very hot and cause damage to clothing.
