How do I know if my current temperature regulator is faulty?

Are there any basic tests I can perform with a multimeter (ohm and/continuity) to check the condition of my current temperature regulator? What would the normal values/readings be?

We believe this is a bimetal thermal switch. If correct this will have a resistance of less than an ohm (short circuit) until the cut out temperature is reached (110C ?)when the resistance would open circuit.
