Is this part the actual filter and if so where does the debris collect. It always seems clean when I take it out

    Drain the machine and have a towel ready to mop up the water released when this is unscrewed from the bottom of the machine. If stuck remove the pump as shown in our videos to shake the debris out of the input connection.

    This is referred to as a filter but it is not designed to filter the drain water but instead it try's to prevent coins or other foreign objects blocking the drain pump.
