How to remove motor cover on Flymo Glider 350

Model G350 Product no.966019241. I need to remove the above in order to release the motor and hence fit a new belt. There are two screws holding the rear of the orange cover onto the base but that is all. There is no exact model match in your belt replacement videos but a similar model is shown as having a third screw at the front of the cover. Mine does not have this or any further screw or screws. On releasing the two screws mentioned one can prise the cover up slightly but something is holding it firmly in place. Can you please advise what to do ?

  • Thanks for the tips on getting the cover off the motor - it worked well for me!! What really surprised me was the amount of dry grass in and around the motor. I took out handfuls of it and surely this must be a fire hazard? No wonder the motor got hot recently. With the tips on the website, this job is not too difficult to do but when trying to find screws caked in grass and mud when you don't know where they are, it's a different story. Thanks again. • Could not get the cover off even using the lugs. I did through brute force manage to get the motor out, change the belt and replace. Very, very tricky though! By RH - Ormskirk, Lancs - 23 June 2019
  • Agree with Graham H.As directed remove the bolts as required. The clip at the front can be a bit tricky, but nothing hard.I used two flat screw drivers, one to hold the clip and the other to jemmy it off. Glider 350 By Graham Barrie - East Kilbride - 27 May 2019
  • Even when the three screws are removed on the motor cover the cover will not come off. You can see some plastic lugs and it appears that they need to be prised back and held. It's a devil of a job and totally unnecessary. I managed to renew my drive belt WITHOUT taking the motor cover off. Very badly designed. If it goes again I will bin it.(eg330vx) By KJG - North UK - 20 October 2017
  • Same problem, could not get the motor housing off my Hover Vac 280. The e-spares video shows 3 screws but there are only two on the all orange 280 model. It took me a good while to spot that there is a plastic clip at the front which is accessed via a slot in the base just behind the rollers. No need to take out the rollers but you need two flat head screwdrivers - fairly big ones are best. Insert the first, wiggle it until you see an opening and shove it into the gap. Then do the same with the other. And,before you reassemble the thing, shave the clip a bit because it really is very tight and could stand a bit of easing (if you think you might need to ever open it again) By Mick D - - 15 September 2017
  • I have given up trying to remove the motor casing on the G350 to replace a broken belt. I even contacted Flymo who for health & safety reasons were unable to offer any guidance ... zero after sales service! .... No more Flymos for me! By C J Hilton - Camberley - 19 August 2017
  • I agree with TRG from Ludlow. There are 2 screws that are visible when the grass collector is removed & a lug that can be got at with the roller removed. The roller bar is held by two spring clips and can be easily prized out. The tab holding the lug I found I needed two screwdriver blades in order that the first part didn't slip back in again. If Graham A found a second screw then perhaps there was a change in design. There is a screw through the base visible with the impellor removed but this holds the driver assembly along with 4 other screws. By Gerry H - Norwich - 27 November 2016
  • There are only 2 screws holding the motor cover not 3. Once you have removed the two screws remove the roller at the front. Once removed, you will see an orange lug over the grey retainer. Use a wide screw driver to push the orange lug so it dis-engages from the grey plastic retainer. Now ease the motor cover from the grey skirt one side at a time. You will need a screw driver again to do this. Also the screws in my Glider 350 are only torx By TRG - Ludlow - 16 October 2016
  • I've just had my 350 in bits and also struggled with removing the nose cone cover. I was starting to use brute force to muscle the cover off when i noticed a third retainig screw. It is located on the out side front of the mower body, up from the front rollers, in the centreline. The screw is horizontal and goes through an extension post coming down from the nose cone cover. It is the same size screw as the other two used to locate the cover. It is hard to see unless you are looking for it as it gets covered in dust etc. Hope this helps By Graham A - Erith kent - 11 August 2016

The second image of the cover (Stock Number: ES1668863) shows the two screw fixing points. The front edge has a lip that when the screws are removed will allow the cover to hinge away from the back and unhook.

  • I have ordered a replacement drive belt and I have been trying to remove the cover without success. I have tried every way to get the thing off including your suggestion. It is now a year since DGO asked the above question is there any further information on how to solve this problem. Thank You James McPhail. By James McPhail - Bishopbriggs Glasgow - 27 April 2016

We do not have an exploded diagram or information for your model but similar models (GL340 & 360) seem to have a cover that has two fixing screws and the lower lip appears to clip in place. Try carefully prising apart using a flat bladed screwdriver.
