The capacitor has completely burnt out. How can you identify why the capacitor blew or do they blow due to old age? It's 8 years old. Can I just plug in a new one and switch dishwasher on or will this just blow another one if another fault exists.

    This filter tries to remove electrical spikes from the mains supply. Occasionally these can damage the filter and may be the reason it has failed. Replacing should resolve the problem.
