On some machines using this paddle the screw holds it to the drum and it is not possible to remove the old paddle without unscrewing it from the drum. This can be accessed usually through the sump hose hole. If the paddle has come of easily without having to remove this screw then it is likely your machine does not use it and therefore can discard the supplied screw.
