The programme control the centre piece which clips into the main control knob, one end has a paddle shape.This centre piece slides onto splines does it make any difference which way round this fits.
Your pictures are very good but I cannot quite see clearly which way round this centre piece is fitted. If you have any more pictures it will probable answer the question.

The spline on the timer will normally only allow the knob to fit in one position to ensure it is correctly aligned.
