I have put in the new seal into my hotpoint washing machine, but now the door can close but won't lock - any ideas

To check if the seal is preventing it locking remove the front edge from the front panel and select a spin cycle. This will prove if the seal was causing the problem. Remember to refit the front edge before allowing the machine to fill with water as this would cause leaking.
