Will the Firex alarm fit a 10 year old base plate?

I've noticed that the current alarms fitted in 2004 say that they should be replaced after 10 years, is this really necessary?

If 10 years replacement is what the manufacturers advise we would suggest you follow this as we are talking about a safety issue hear and it is likely the performance of the unit has degraded during its lifetime and is less sensitive then when new.
