Unadjustable temperature

I cannot control the temperature on my hob and I now know it is the regulator. What I would like to know is does it make any difference which regulator is used if the ring is a rapid boil or a normal or does the ceramic element dictate what type of ring it is?

Generally regulators are the same apart from being either single or dual element rings.
