What is the best way of removing drum assembly from bearings.

I have a AEG Oko Lavamat PNC 91400240600 L88840. Needed to change bearings and have purchased back assembly which comes with the bearings attached. Having difficulty getting the old one off.

Once the pulley is removed hold the drum at a height of up to 60 cm above a solid surface like a paving slab. By letting it fall onto the shaft the drum rear is likely to slide out of the bearing.
