How to Replace the Spraying System on a Dishwasher - Hotpoint

The spray arm, channels, fixtures and fittings inside a dishwasher can perish over time due to wear and tear. A buildup of limescale and food debris can grow and cause the internal spray system to deteriorate over time and affect the performance of your dishwasher.

So if you’ve been suffering from sub-par cleaning results and are wondering what the cause is, carry on reading our article to swiftly sort out your dilemma.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Replace The Lower Spray Arm And Fixing Kit

Remove the lower basket and you should see the lower spray arm. It should come off by unscrewing it or you can ease it off using a flat head screwdriver. You can see the lower spray arm fixing is actually damaged and we will replace the whole spray arm.

It may be too tight to remove by hand so get yourself some pliers to make your life easier. Once the faulty part is removed you can easily secure the replacement in and we will also replace the lower spray arm.

Step 3 - Replace The Upper Spray Arm And Fixing Nut

The upper spray arm is fixed onto the upper dishwasher basket. To remove the basket release the runner ends and the basket should slide out. Flip the basket on its back so you can remove the spray arm by twisting it off. The rubber seal on the back of the spray arm can disintegrate due to wear and tear, but can easily be replaced.

Step 4 - Check The Spray Arm Feed Pipe And Spray Arm Fixing Nut

You can also replace the upper spray arm feed pipe leading into the spray arm if it is damaged. Another common part that may need replacing is the upper spray arm fixing nut and seal which fits on the back of the dishwasher.

It’s worth checking the condition of the seal on the nut to make sure there’s no damage. If you find any signs of deterioration then you may need to use some pliers to loosen it and then pop your new seal and nut back on.

As you can see there are quite a few parts linked to the internal spray system, but the good news is they’re really easy to replace. eSpares is sure to have the replacement you need to get your dishwasher flowing out with sparkling dishes.
