there are two wires for the earth terminal coming from the back of the oven what do you do with these as they might touch the live connections when replacing the element back into postion

On most new ovens the earth connection has been removed. This is because on all ovens in the UK the chassis is earthed and screwing the element in place earths it. If you do have an earth connection we suggest you insulate the end or follow back to the earth point and remove it as it is no longer required.

  • Hi There. Simply remove the spade connection for the earth connection on the element, then fit a ring type crimp on the wire, pass 1 of the fixing screws through the hole in the ring terminal & replace the fixing screw to secure the element & this will re-fix the earth in the correct position. Replaced the oven element on my Neff B1422N0GB/03 with this one, connected to the new element just as it was connected to the old one, screwed it back on and it still won't work. When the previous element stopped working it tripped the main fuse box, could it be internal electrics? The fan still works, as does the grill element.

  • Turns out the grill had also stopped working after replacing the oven element. After taking the back off the oven I was able to see that one of the electric connectors had come off the old element in the process of pulling it through from the front to replace it. Other's might have the same issue as the cables for that connector were particularly short and didn't have enough slack to pull through the insulation and to the front (internals) of the oven. Issue was resolved by connecting the connector onto the 2nd pin of one of the two double prongs on the element - ensuring that it was connected to the same prong as the other wire with the same pattern on it. The reason it had stopped the grill element working was because the grill power runs off an extension of the same connector that goes to the oven element, so it had knocked both out at once. See our oven diagnosis video in the advice centre as the problem may be the thermostat.

Answer this question

All of the heating elements have stopped working - oven, grill, top'n'bottom heat - all dead. Oven otherwise functions as though it's working - fan comes on, lights etc. Do I need to replace all heating elements - is this just the oven heating element and top grill element. I can't get any ofthe torx screws (T20) off the back plate? They are stuck solid.

  • Well, it turns out stupid oven had put itself in Demo Mode - with nothing to indicate it was in Demo Mode. Only when you turn Oven off at the fuse and turn it back on again, does it briefly show a message: 'Demo Settings On'. It then took all sorts of experiments to turn the stupid Demo Mode Off. Answer this question

Is there a replacement wire to connect to the element? My father is a qualified electrician and could fit it with the right part.

By Anonymous - Cheltenham - 20 February 2011
  • That is correct but ensure the "Lucar" spade terminal is not plastic coated! Always use plain connectors. By HarleyJon - Dorset - 27 June 2011
  • They are standard spade connectors (female) can be purchased readily from DIY or motor spares outlets and crimped to the existing wire. By Kevo - Leicestershire - 08 March 2011

I have a NEFF B142W2GB, its around 3 years old. When I use the grill its ok, but when I put the oven on it runs for about 10 to 12 minuets and then it blows the 63A 30mA RCD in the consumer unit. Could it be the element.

Please consult an engineer for support before ordering any spares because we cannot give out technical advice unfortunately.

  • sounds like it could be - my oven element tripped the RCD when it went. Your element could be shorting only when it gets really hot and so when it trips and cools down again it is no longer a short circuit. So a new element is the likey answer but I am no expert - just a humble engineer. I bought the universal one and it is easy to fit - dont know about reliability - only had it a week.
