  • I was told a bra wire can do this or a 50p. By LKH - Leeds - 16 January 2017
  • Going to be a bit late with this answer I think but when it happened to my machine it was an Allen Key swirling about at the back of the drum that was shearing off the plastic clips that hold the paddles in place! By asheriff - Edinburgh - 12 October 2011

Sorry we don't diagnose faults, only replace the spare parts. Should you need technical assistance, please speak to an engineer.

Answer this question

I have tried fitting replacements but there is a metal piece in the centre that when upright prevents the paddles from sliding/cliping into place. If I bend this piece down and flush with the drum then the paddles slide/clip perfectly into place, however when I use the machine the paddles are not held securely and snap off (again!). I now need to order more of these but need to know how I get them to hold in place after fitting - i.e. how do I get the metal piece in position to hold them?

  • I used a short length of thin string to lift the metal tab back up after fitting the paddle. Before fitting I bent the tab flush with the drum. I then looped the string around the tab (no knots) and fed the loose ends through a hole in the paddle. The paddle was pushed into place and then gripping both ends of the string I pulled the tab back up. The string was then removed by pulling one loose end. Answer this question

Could you please state somewhere that your instructional video does not relate to 12 hole paddle where the metal tab is below the 6th hole (not the 3rd)

Small plastic bits may have washed into the pump preventing it turning. See our video: How to diagnose washing machine drain and pump problems: www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/1732

The paddle is prevented from accidently coming off by the metal 'spring or flap' on the drum shown here: https://youtu.be/V-kIP83a4RU?t=49s this will stop the paddle from being removed until it is pushed down enough to clear the paddle.
