It is likely the charger has failed.

Answer this question

I bought a new battery which works well in the handheld DC31. However I cannot get it to recharge (couldn't with the original battery - which is why I thought I needed a new battery). The charger appears to give the correct indications at first, but green light on charger goes out after about 5 minutes and battery is not recharged. Can you advise which item is faulty - do I need a new charger?

We do not have details but believe it should be over 15 volts.
