    The waveguide cover only needs to be replaced if it is damaged.

  • It fits either way round and should not matter. The mica is there as a protection only from food getting into the microwave vent. Slide one end in and carefully bend the mica at its center to allow the other slot to fit under the metal tab. By Anonymous - Cambridge - 14 March 2011

  • Microwaves do not flow down wires, but are guided through a metal duct from the megatron into the microwave oven cavity. To prevent foreign objects from entering the waveguide, a cover needs to be fitted. This has to be transparent to the microwaves but also strong enough to prevent it collapsing under use.
