How to Replace the Mains Filter on a Tumble Dryer

The role of the mains filter in your tumble dryer is to prevent interference from the motor affecting your other appliances. If your tumble dryer is tripping the electrics when you connect the power, it could be due to a faulty mains filter. If you need to replace the mains filter for your tumble dryer, then you will be pleased to know that you have come to the right place!

What you will need:

Step 1 - Safety First

Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.

Step 2 - Remove The Upper Lid And Unscrew The Mains Filter

Well we need to get to the mains filter don’t we...so start by taking off the top of the machine by removing the screws at the rear. You can remove the mains filter by removing the holding screws at the back.

Step 3 - Release The Mains Filter

Time to have a little inspection of the filter now! There are a few signs to look out for that would indicate that there is an issue with the mains filter - these would include bulges on the outside, burn marks, liquid on the bottom of the filter and signs of smoking on the bracket.

To take out the mains filter you need to remove the electrical connectors from it (take note of how they are connected, with the “L” and “N” indicators)

Step 4 - Check The Electrical Connectors Before Fitting

OK here we go then - let’s get that new mains filter fitted…the new mains filter you have might look different in appearance to your old one, so when you attach the electrical connectors just make sure that they are connected correctly with regards to the “L” and “N” indicators.

Step 5 - Attach The Mains Filter

With the electrical connectors now in place, you can screw the mains filter to the back panel, followed then by reattaching the top. There you go - all done!
