How to Replace The Soap Dispenser Housing On A Washing Machine

Over time the detergent dispenser can suffer from wear and tear, and also a build-up of mildew and bacteria. It can also experience damage such as being cracked and chipped.

If you have a leak coming from the front or the bottom of your washing machine, the detergent dispenser might need to be replaced.

If you need to replace the soap dispenser housing, but are unsure where to start, there’s no need to panic. We’ll talk you through how to successfully replace the soap dispenser housing without damaging your washing machine.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.

Step 2 - Remove The Control Panel (Depending On Model)

Right here goes then… We need to get to the detergent drawer housing! To do this you need to remove the detergent drawer itself, using the quick release mechanism (depending on your model, you might need to remove the whole control panel at the front and the top)

You will need to use a screwdriver to remove the screws and any clips from behind the control panel.

Step 3 - Remove The Detergent Drawer Housing

So how do you remove the detergent drawer housing, we hear you ask? To do this you have to remove the hoses with their Jubilee clips (could be up to 5 hoses, depending on your model).

Once you have removed these hoses, and with the detergent drawer out you will have access to the last Phillips screw head behind the drawer front.

And there you have it, you can now remove the detergent drawer housing, and simply pop your new one in its place.

Step 4 - Put Appliance Back Together

Well, if you have any intention of actually using your washing machine after all this work, you will need to put it back together again!

This can easily be done though, as you have already done the hard work - all you need to do now is the reverse of what you have done so far. Connect up the control panel and pop the top back on the machine, and there you go - all finished!

Congratulations - you have now successfully been able to replace your washing machine soap dispenser housing!

You can now get back to being able to wash your clothes again in no time, in the knowledge that you have fixed the soap dispenser housing all by yourself (with a little help from eSpares of course!)
