Safety first

Before you begin this replacement, make sure your appliance is switched off and disconnected from the mains for your own safety.

How to replace the door lock step by step

Let's get stuck in. To learn how to replace the door lock on a Candy tumble dryer, watch the video or follow the step-by-step guide below.

Step 1: Find your tumble dryer's model information

To make sure you find the correct replacement door lock for your tumble dryer, you need to find the appliance's model information. You can usually find this in the corner of the door panel as pictured below. However, it may also be on the tumble dryer's door, or on the side or back of the appliance. The model number usually consists of a combination of letters and numbers and could also include characters such as a dash (-) or a slash (/).

Step 2: Remove the top panel

Once you have your new door lock, you can begin with the replacement. Using a screwdriver, remove the two screws that hold the top panel in place at the back of the appliance. Then pull the top panel away.

Step 3: Remove the control panel

Next, you need to remove the control panel. This is the panel with all of the buttons and switches for using the dryer. To remove the control panel, first carefully disconnect the electrical connections with multi-coloured wiring. Before you do this, be sure to take a photo of the wiring so you can reconnect it later. Be careful not to damage the wiring as you remove it.

Then, unscrew the two screws that hold the panel in place. Once you've done this, you will be able to lift the control panel away.

Step 4: Remove the kickplate

Simply pull the kickplate away from the tumble dryer to remove it.

Step 5: Remove the door seal

The door seal can also easily be removed by simply pulling it off the inner door frame.

Step 6: Remove the front panel

To remove the front panel, unscrew the eight screws that hold it in place. These screws can be different, so make sure you make a note of where each one comes from. There are two at the top of the panel, one in each corner.

There are another four screws in the corners of the door frame.

And lastly, there are two beneath the panel - again, one in each corner.

Finally, disconnect the electrical connections from the front panel to remove it completely. Take a note or a photo of where these are connected so you can replace them easily later.

Step 7: Remove the door lock

You can find the door lock to the right of the door frame on the front panel. To remove it, simply remove the screw that holds it in place.

You can then remove the door lock from the panel by pulling the square pip that holds it into place free.

Step 8: Replace the door lock

To fit the new door lock, push the square pip into the door lock hole, making sure it is all the way through and firmly in place.

Then, refit the screw to secure the door lock.

Step 9: Refit the front panel

Reconnect the electrical connection to the new door lock on the front panel.

Then refit the front panel by pushing it into place and returning the eight screws you removed earlier.

Step 10: Refit the door seal

Refit the door seal by pushing it back into place, working your way around the frame as you do so. Once the door seal is in place, close and open the door again to make sure it has been refitted correctly and is not obstructing the door.

Step 11: Refit the kickplate

To refit the kickplate, simply slot it back into place at the bottom of the dryer.

Step 12: Refit the control panel

When refitting the control panel, first screw it back into place with the two screws you removed earlier.

Then reconnect the electrical connections.

Step 13: Refit the lid

Finally, return the lid to the top of the dryer.

Finish by screwing the lid into place with the two screws at the back of the appliance.

There you have it - how to replace the door lock on a Candy tumble dryer. Hopefully, your dryer's door should now be closing properly and your appliance should be running smoothly again.
