The dishwasher spray arms force water at high speeds onto the dishes to provide a thorough clean. They can easily become clogged with food debris and limescale that may stop water from flowing out. Utensils and cutlery poking out of the cutlery basket can damage the spray arms causing cracks and force the water out unevenly.
If you’ve never changed the spray arms on your dishwasher before don’t worry. It’s a fairly straightforward task and we’re convinced after you’ve finished with our article you’ll be full of confidence to tackle the job.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.
What You Will Need:
Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.
Step 2 - Find The Correct Spray Arm
You’ll need to find the model number for your dishwasher to make sure you’re ordering the correct part. For help in finding your model number click here.
Step 3 - Remove And Replace The Upper Spray Arm
We will change the upper spray arm first, which is usually attached to the top dishwasher basket. To take out the basket on this model, click open the runner ends and the basket should slide out.
It’s fairly easy to detach the spray arm from the basket. Use a flat head screwdriver and carefully insert it underneath the spray arm to release it. Your new arm should just click into place.
Step 4 - Remove And Replace The Lower Spray Arm
The lower spray arm is attached to the bottom of the dishwasher itself, so you will need to take out the lower basket. You’ll need your screwdriver again to insert it underneath the spray arm and it should pop out. Your new arm should easily click into place.
Slide both the baskets back in and don’t forget to close the runner ends to prevent the baskets from sliding out.
There you go. You’ve replaced the spray arms in your dishwasher without the expensive call out charge and you’re probably feeling quite proud of yourself.
