How to fix a Dishwasher Door Hinge on a Hotpoint or Indesit Machine

A faulty door hinge makes closing the door on your dishwasher difficult, and can then possibly cause further damage. This video shows how to repair this common problem on either Hotpoint or Indesit machines.

If you need to replace the door hinge mechanism on your dishwasher, you will be pleased to know that you have found the right website to help you out!

No matter that you haven’t an idea where to start - that’s where we come in. We’ll show you how to replace the hinge successfully without damaging your appliance.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Caution: Due to the sharp edges exposed we suggest suitable Safety Gloves are worn to help prevent injury when carrying out this repair.

Step 2 - Remove The Front Door Panel

Ok here goes then...you need to start by removing the outer panel of the door, which you do by removing the screws at the back of the door (be careful when removing the last screw, as the front panel will drop down)

Step 3 - Fitting The Pivot

You should now be able to see the hinge mechanism, and where the pivot and clip should be. When we open the door a little, we can see that the two parts of the hinge on this dishwasher are not connected. Here we will put the pivot into place, and then add the clip to hold it in position.

You will notice that the clip has a number of tabs which face a certain direction, which means that the pivot needs to go through it and then be locked into place.

When replacing the pivot and clip you need to make sure that those tabs are facing outward - so that the pivot locks in. Proceed to pop the pivot into place, making sure that it goes through both parts of the hinge.

Step 4 - Fitting The Clip

To fit the clip, we recommend that you don’t use a pair of pliers, as you may damage the clip or be unsuccessful in fitting it. So what we recommend is to use a socket which goes over the clip - and then you can squeeze all the parts together with a pair of water pump pliers.

Please Note: Instead of a socket you could use a small nut (as long as it's slightly bigger than the clip or the same size, it will ensure that the clip locks onto the pivot correctly)

Step 5 - Refit The Front Panel

Ok then, nearly there now! All that is left for you to do is to refit the front door panel.
