How to Change a Fridge Door Hinge - Rangemaster

Over time the hinge on your fridge may begin to suffer from general wear and tear, which can have a detrimental effect on the performance of your fridge - as the door might not be opening and closing as smoothly as it should.

In this video, with the help of our experienced team, we explain how to replace a fridge door hinge - and we’ve also compiled a simple step-by-step guide which takes you through every point covered in our video.

If you need to replace the door hinge on your fridge, you will be pleased to know that you are at the right place! Through watching this video we’ll show you how to replace the door hinge on your fridge, without damaging your appliance.

But wait, that’s not all...not only that, you can also view our range of replacement door hinges on the eSpares website, so you can be sure that you have the correct hinge for your model.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Remove Top Hinge From The Door

Ok then here we go...let’s start with the top hinge. There are some bolts and locating pins that are holding it down, and you need to undo and remove the bolts (the locating pins will continue to hold the hinge in place - so you need to lift the hinge out of those, while holding the door as a precaution)

The seal around the door will generally hold it in place, but even if it’s just knocked slightly it can fall off and get damaged so be careful. You should be able to just lift the top hinge off now. Proceed to lifting the door away slightly, and then up off the bottom hinge.

Please Note: You don’t actually need to remove the door to replace the bottom hinge - but in this video we are doing it just to give you a better idea of the process.

Step 3 - Replace The Bottom Hinge

So that was the upper hinge covered, time to look at the bottom hinge now! To remove the bottom hinge, you first have to remove the bottom kick plate (by removing the screws holding it in place)

As a result of this you will now have better access to the bolts that are holding the bottom hinge in place. Proceed to use a spanner to remove these bolts.

The next thing you need to do is remove the door locating cam from the old hinge, and transfer it onto the new hinge. You are now free to fit the new hinge to the fridge - and also then reattach the kick plate.

Step 4 - Fit The Door

Almost at the end of the process now...keep on going! Before you can put the door back on, the new hinges need to be properly greased. To do this you can either take grease from the old hinge, or if not you can use either petroleum jelly or car grease.

With this hinge now sorted you now need to put your new hinge in place at the top - pop it over the locating pins and proceed to fit the bolts back in position.

General Comment: It’s important that the door is level once it’s put back in place. On most appliances this is achieved just by adjusting the feet, but on some machines it may be necessary to adjust the hinge slightly as well.

Well there you go then - all done now! You have been able to replace both the upper and lower hinges on this fridge - and you can feel good that it is all down to your hard work and patience *well, maybe just a little help from us at eSpares too maybe!)

You will now be able to open and close the door on your fridge with some confidence that it is going to make the door open and close in a smooth manner once again.
